Hell

Weapons, bombs, and deaths shadow our conscience,

as we fight for land and power and riches.

Unwary of the lives lost and feelings hurt,

Our great world plunges into darkness-

a trench of hatred and envy,

Gloomy clouds veil the warzones

strewn with blood and ash;

Golden jars full of empty desires stand before us,

Besides nectar of immortal peace-

But we choose the former

heartlessly.

Look what we have done to ourselves.

Illiteracy

Amassing my efforts, I wield the pen

With the blank pages staring at my face,

Wondering what would shape from my trembling hands-

A Shakespeare.

A long ballad bathed in feeling,

A song of innocence,

Peter Pan, which Mother read to me every day,

Elegies of the dear, eulogies of nature.

My palms are drenched in sweat, fingers tacked;

My hand refuses to move despite the constant effort.

I feel my skin melting, along with my mind,

I battle against myself and refuse to embrace the truth-

For I cannot write.

Aeschylus doesn't speak to me, nor does Dickens;

Wordsworth stares me in the eyes, reproachfully-

almost as terribly as these blank pages

that have become a phobia,

Words of ink I have always sought,

but shy away each passing day-

and Oh! They shall remain so, forever.

I wish I could read and write.

Nonsense

If you're reading this stupid rhyme,

You are really wasting your time

It makes no real sense

As I am writing, hence,

I too am really wasting mine.

Blue

Your drooping head, your feeble face,
Your swollen eyes, they speak of pain.
I see the sky is crying with you,
but the rain won't wash away your tears.
So did the sky leave you too?
Don't you see the silver lining?
Lift your head, look up there my friend,
The Sun peeks out for you.
Now look straight ahead, and then you'll see,
Your love is back here too.

Daffodils

Lining the misty golden hills

Are the dazzling yellow daffodils

Like Earth beneath a quilt of blaze

And a gleaming veil of morning haze.

Sprawling over the fragrant mud

Radiant blossoms and fresh buds

Rich green leaves with scented dew

What a sight it is to view

Gazing at the blue yonder

What can be sweeter, I wonder

Than Golden daffodils, and dewdrop pearls

Bestowing beauty to the world!

Mother

And all of a sudden my little world plunged into darkness-

The darkest one yet.

I felt like a forsaken feather, of no meaning to any world but my own.

Pierced, drilled, struck hard.

Betrayal, envy,hatred.

Terrible torments bothering me from the beginning of time-

I'd done nothing to deserve it.

So there I sprawled in the garden, arms on the delicate tufts of weed.

Conjuring up a smile was a hard row to hoe,

Happy times had withered like the weed.

A familiar hand touched my shoulder.

"You look pale."

I touched it. It was ridged and old, worn out like no other,

Evincing decades of toiling.

Fifty years old but as good as new,

her kiss was nectar.

I had to live for her.

QUIET

I long for the quiet By a silent flowing river As the wind caresses my cheeks And the leaves break into laughter. The sun drowns far away, t...
